| First Preference | Candidates who have represented the country in an International Competition with clearance of the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. |
| Second Preference | Candidates who have represented a State/UT in Senior or Junior level National Championships organized by recognized National Sports Federations or National Games organized by Indian Olympic Association and have won medals or secured positions up to 3rd place. Preference among Senior/Junior participants will be given to those who won medals in Senior National Championships. |
| Third Preference | Candidates who have represented a University in Inter-University competitions conducted by the Association of Indian Universities/Inter University Sports Board or Khelo India University Games authorized by the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and have won medals or secured positions up to 3rd place in finals. |
| Fourth Preference | Candidates who have represented a State/UT in Khelo India Youth Games (above 18 years), Khelo India Winter Games, or Khelo India Para Games authorized by the Department of Sports, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and have won medals or secured positions up to 3rd place in finals. |
| Fifth Preference | Candidates who have represented State Schools in National Sports/Games for Schools conducted by the All-India School Games Federation and have won medals or secured positions up to 3rd place. |
| Sixth Preference | Candidates who have represented State/UT/University/State Schools Teams at the levels mentioned in Second to Fifth preference but could not win a medal or position, considered in the same order of preference. |
