Candidates must possess SSC/10th standard or equivalent with Science subjects and minimum 55% marks along with the relevant ITI certificate or National/State Trade Certificate in the concerned trade. Alternatively, candidates may possess SSC/10th standard or equivalent with Science subjects and minimum 55% marks with 02 years full-time experience as an apprentice trainee from a recognized institution in the relevant trade, or 03 years of relevant work experience in a Ministry, Department, Organization, Public Sector Undertaking, Autonomous Body under Government of India, or State/UT. The prescribed qualification and experience must relate to the respective Technician trade.

The CSIR Technician (1) recruitment written examination will be OMR-based or Computer Based and objective-type multiple choice. The examination will contain 150 questions and will have a total duration of 2 hours 30 minutes. Paper-I will contain 50 Mental Ability questions for 100 marks with no negative marking. Paper-II will contain 25 General Awareness and 25 English Language questions, carrying 75 marks each, with one negative mark for every wrong answer. Paper-III will contain 50 questions from the concerned subject/trade carrying 150 marks, with one negative mark for every wrong answer.

CSIR has announced 43 Technician (1) vacancies in Group-C, Pay Matrix Level-2. The vacancies comprise UR-19, OBC (NCL)-11, SC-06, ST-03 and EWS-04. Two posts are reserved for PwBD candidates and four posts are reserved horizontally for Ex-Servicemen. The advertised trades are Computer Operator & Programming Assistant (COPA), Desktop Publishing Operator (DTPO), Computer Hardware & Network Maintenance (CH&NM), Medical Lab Technician (MLT), Draughtsman (Architecture), Instrument Mechanic, Draughtsman (Mechanical), Draughtsman (Civil), Laboratory Assistant in Chemical Plant (LACP) and Interior Designer.

Applications will first be screened by a Screening Committee. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a qualifying Trade Test. Candidates who qualify the Trade Test will be invited for the competitive written examination consisting of Paper-I, Paper-II and Paper-III. Paper-II and Paper-III will be evaluated only for candidates who secure the minimum threshold marks in Paper-I. The final merit list will be prepared only on the basis of marks obtained in Paper-II and Paper-III.

Technician (1) is a Group-C post carrying Pay Matrix Level-2 with a basic pay scale of ₹19,900 to ₹63,200. The post also carries applicable Central Government allowances such as HRA and Travelling Allowance and other benefits including Leave Travel Concession, reimbursement of medical expenses and Children's Education Allowance as per CSIR rules. New entrants will be governed by the National Pension System (NPS).

Candidates other than Women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen are required to pay an application fee of ₹500. Women, SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates are exempted from payment of the application fee. The fee can be paid online through SBI Collect. The fee once paid will not be refunded or adjusted against another examination or recruitment process.

The online application process starts on 18 August 2026 at 10:00 AM and the last date for fee submission and online application is 17 September 2026 at 05:00 PM. Candidates may apply for multiple post codes if they satisfy the eligibility conditions for each post code, but a separate application and prescribed fee are required for each post code. All essential qualifications, age and experience must be possessed by the closing date of the online application. Selected candidates may initially be posted at CSIR Headquarters or its Units at Delhi-NCR, Pune or Mumbai, wherever required.

Candidates should keep scanned copies of their photograph, signature, proof of date of birth, qualifying educational certificates from 10th onwards, present/last employment certificate, caste certificate where applicable, disability certificate where applicable, Discharge Book for Ex-Servicemen where applicable and other supporting documents ready for online application. Candidates working in Government, Autonomous Bodies or PSUs are required to provide a No Objection Certificate at the time of the Trade Test.
