Candidates must generally be between 18 and 26 years as on 01 August 2026, subject to applicable Ex-Servicemen/Agniveer age relaxation. Candidates must have passed 10th standard or equivalent but must not have passed Graduation. They must be able to speak, read and write Tamil. Eligible Ex-Servicemen may alternatively qualify with the prescribed Armed Forces educational certificate after the required period of service.

The selection process consists of an online objective-type test, Tamil local-language test and Physical Fitness Test. Candidates are selected through an Online Objective Test, Tamil Local Language Test and Physical Fitness Test. Candidates qualifying the online and language tests and meeting the prescribed criteria are called for the Physical Fitness Test. Final merit is prepared by adding marks obtained in the Objective Test, Local Language Test and Physical Fitness Test, followed by reservation-wise merit ranking.
